The Institute participated in the launch of CITYAir on 9 April this year in Ankara, Turkey, in the presence of senior officials from the Turkish Ministry of the Environment, the European Commission and the ambassadors of the countries involved in the consortium. The purpose of this European Commission-funded project is to improve air quality in Turkey, in particular by transferring and applying the knowledge acquired by the European Union in matters of ambient air quality.

Ineris is coordinating the modelling component of the project, notably the development and introduction of a national system for forecasting air quality in Turkey, which is putting the experience gained with PREV'AIr and the work performed daily for Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Services (CAMS) to good use.
Ineris will thus set up a modelling chain based on its CHIMERE model that was developed jointly with the CNRS.

This forecasting system will also make it possible to downscale at high resolution at the level of a pilot city. The object of this forecasting chain is to allow the local and national authorities to decide on the best regulatory measures to take, in order to cleanse and improve the quality of the ambient air in Turkey.

Cityair is a consortium coordinated by Agriconsulting Europe SA (AESA), which includes Ineris, the Inter-professional Technical Centre for Studies on Air Pollution (CITEPA) and the Puck Global communication agency.
